Senor Pants publishes hot sauce buying guides built from the product information that manufacturers and retailers publish. Products are not tasted or tested in-house.
Where the figures come from
Heat figures are the Scoville ratings each manufacturer publishes for its own sauce. When a sauce is built around a record-holding pepper such as the Carolina Reaper or Pepper X, the guide notes that the record figure belongs to the pepper, and that the finished sauce varies from batch to batch.
Prices and bottle counts come from the Amazon listing or from the company’s own site. Each guide names the month its prices were checked. Prices change often, so the retailer page always carries the current figure.
The Señor Pants Score
Each pick carries a Señor Pants Score out of 5. Four criteria are scored from 1 to 5 and averaged. The criteria depend on the guide: a wing sauce is judged on how well it clings to a wing, and a gift set on what it costs for what is in the box. Every guide lists its four criteria in its own method box.
The score is an editorial rating. It does not average customer reviews.
Affiliate links
Guides link to retailers through affiliate programs, and Senor Pants earns a commission on some purchases made through those links. The Affiliate Disclosure explains how that works.
Corrections
To report an error on a guide, email hello@senorpants.com with the page address and the figure that needs fixing. When a figure on a guide changes, the guide’s checked date changes with it.
